About Me

Author photo 4

Hi, I’m Romi Moondi, and words forever rattle in my head. I try my best to put them to use with novels, short stories, screenplays, and ad copy, but even after all of that…the word count runneth over.

I guess that’s why blogs were invented.

It was my early days of posting three times a week that inspired my first novel, and while I don’t have as much time for blogging as I used to, I still do enjoy it quite a lot.

In recent years, there’s been a lot more writing, some publishing of books, and a good deal of travelling too. This blog recalls some of those travel experiences (particularly the ones in Paris), along with some thoughts on writing, and occasional thoughts on anything

My latest thoughts are focused on the BIGGEST NEWS: My romantic comedy 24 Hours in Paris will be in bookstores in North America on May 10th!

[I interrupt this summary to say: 24 Hours in Paris received a starred review from Publishers Weekly (a really impassioned one that blew my mind!), and it was also the Publishers Weekly #1 Summer Romance Read Pick for 2022 (which additionally blew my mind)!!]

This dream has been a long time in the making, and I hope you’ll enjoy this dual-POV, POC-led romantic comedy as much as I enjoyed writing it. It’s basically a story about two very different co-workers, who wind up stuck in Paris for an extra 24 hours after missing their flight. Chaos ensues, sparks fly, and all along, you’ll get to enjoy an immersive tour of Paris (inspired by the endless hours I’ve spent there—though it’s never enough)! In terms of the romance aspect, it’s light on the cheesiness but heavy on the feelings. There’s some yearning in there too—who doesn’t love a good yearning session on a Friday night? Oh, just me? Okay then. There’s a good dash of humour in the book as well, and I hope it’ll make you smile.

You can preorder the book at Indigo and Amazon in Canada, at Barnes and Noble and Amazon in the US, and at Amazon in the UK. You can also preorder it directly from Wattpad if you’re in the US. It’s also available at independent bookstores and libraries in North America, and if becomes available anywhere else, I’ll let you know on social media.

  1. If you live in Canada you must be canadian. Of course, without desconsidering your parents, their country or their traditions. But to live in Canada as an indian is out of hand: it would means to be no-country habitant.
the lack of affiliation of the children of italian immigrants drived them to constitute the most dangerous and deathful gangs, and the same is today with the chineese.
you are lucky to live in canada, a very civilized and peacefull country. think how it would be in america.
    best regards,
    dan, romania

  2. Romi, I like your new site and have added it to my reader. I’m excited to see what you have going on here! Thank you for all of your friendship and support – this is a whole new side of you and I look forward to finding out more! That would be so hard if your parents have such expectations on you… I’m sure you love them and don’t want to disappoint but – – it’s your life, and you gotta live it and be happy, right? But, you sure are caught between a rock and a hard place with this. I’ll pray that they will accept your decisions and learn to embrace them… ‘cuz you are an amazing girl whether you are Indian or Canadian… or whatever…. AMAZING!

  3. I see your hotness and raise you a sexy-licious! Let’s hope that 2009 marks the end of your parents quest to have you married… who am I kidding, that’s just their thing, right? Love ya, Romi!

  4. Dear Romi,

I decided to treat myself tonight, so I made some popcorn and read all the articles/entries in your new blog. As a fan of “Year of the Chick,” I am not a bit disappointed in your new blog.

You are a talented and witty writer with an interesting point-of-view; but I suppose you know all that. I particularly enjoyed “Little India: The Textile Shops… .” I have experience in India and with Indian immigrants, and I have a fondness for Indian culture — more curry, please, and a few samosas. Also I have been adopted into an Indian family. From my perspective, you ring true, and funny also. Keep it up.

Any chance that you would be interested in a 61 year old man from small-town Kansas who is fat and not rich, though not balding either, and who would adore you? Should I have my Indian elder brother contact your father?

  5. danmihalache: well gee, thank you for the very serious assessment! I can only offer you the assurance that my blog is written in humourous tones, and I grew up as the furthest thing to a potential gang-member-in-training that you could ever imagine! 😉

David: my dad left India for better opportunities I suppose, and my mom left years later ’cause she was newly married to my dad, who had returned from the motherland to meet her, nod his head, marry her, and bring her back, hahaha 😉

    JavaQueen:
I completely echo the appreciation of YOUR friendship and support, you are a such a sweet peach! 😉

And as a “world citizen” (as I like to refer to myself..but with obvious appreciation for being Canadian of course), I too hope that whatever decisions I make in this “world” will be fully supported by the parentals…to be determined 😉

Red: thanks, and you’re not exactly bad yourself miss RED-HOT! 😉

Duffboy: hahaha…that is SO my parents thing, if they didn’t have marriages to arrange they’d have nothing to do with their day! 😉

douglas4582: welcome back and it’s nice to know I’m still being followed (ooh, creepy)…are you actually gonna stick around this time? 😉

mittins: did you just call me an OLD plum!???!!? Just kidding, I love being called a plum by my life coach, and I am ever-so flattered that you still read it, thank you! 😉

mumbaikar: that sounds like a very interesting link, thanks for that.

cowgalutah: this is why you must NEVER stop blogging…NEVVVAAAHHHHHHH… 😉

Paul Hoag: You’ve been adopted into an Indian family?! That’s so cool that you have a loving family who can give you samosas 😉

PS: thank you for such kind words with regards to the writing, it is not deserved but I am truly humbled. And I’ll get back to you on your elder brother getting in touch with my dad, haha 😉

  6. You have what i like to call “sex eyes” lol, but you are very pretty and the green looks really good on you. Sounds like you went through something called CAD, well except that doesn’t make sense for you, bc you’re canadian, someone called me a CAD recently, and after my initial, “you’re a COCK” they told me it meant confused american desi. So i guess you’d be CCD.

  7. Hi Romi,

Your blog is funnier than your tNBW story (which I really like as you know). But the humour really shines through more with the blog. Possibly because it’s not being filtered (if you see what I mean) by being turned into fiction.

I just wanted to follow up your comment about looking for more of my stuff. It’s not all funny I’m afraid… and my sole other attempt at humour nearly wrecked the forums (Innocent Pleasure).

I’m looking forward to seeing more of your writing and am intruiged by how much of the log might make it into the story

    Venator.

  8. you have a great blog here. mind if we exchange link? im sure people in the philippines will surely love your blog when they discover it, the way i did. keep blogging 😉

  9. Hi!

So glad to have found you! Your intro reminded me a little about the story of the “Hindi Bindi Club”. Have you read the book?

I look forward to reading your blog!

    Sas

  10. You have a beautiful nose; I love the long Greek nose. I even have a post on that on my blog. Subscribing to your feeds. See you later.

  11. Dear Romi,

Thanks so much for your blog! I discovered it while googling my name, and I LOVE your post about “The Time I Was an Actual Boy…”

It has taken me a long time to learn to live with my name. When I was in grade school (way back in the fifties) it was a highly unusual name and all the kids made fun of me. (Actually, my mother made up the name from Ruth + Naomi, my grandmothers’ names.)

I went through a period of going by my middle name (Noel), but went back to Romi eventually.

Then I went through a period of reading all about gypsies, who–as you may know–call their language “Romany,” and one of the names for them is RomA. I discovered that the Roma are thought to have originally come from India. There is even a gypsy organization in Spain called “Romi.”

I look forward to reading more of your blog, as it is really very interesting.

    Best,

  12. Hi marcie 🙂

The new blog is on its way, I’ve just been very distracted finishing the edit of my novel!

Thanks for noticing though 😉 , and I’ll be back soon…

  13. Hey Romi,

Wanted to say what’s up as it’s been ages since I’ve blog hopped. Hope all is well.

    Doug aka Sexual T-Rex

  14. Sorry–I hadn’t noticed your response to Marcie! It’s wonderful you’re finishing up your novel–congratulations!

    1. I sure hope I can deliver on the 2010 promise 😉 A bit late getting out of the gate, which means more gusto to make it good! (whatever “gusto” means…lol)

    1. how did I not know this comment was here? Feb 23rd…hmm, probably when I was in a post-mad-writing hangover 😉 I’ll reply to your email this week! 🙂

  15. Romi,

I just sent a reply on the Justin Bieber post, and it didn’t show up. Then I realized it probably went into your spam qeue because I included my niece-in-law’s blogsite (I had forgotten WordPress does that with comments that include websites).

  16. Me loves you. And what’s with that sex appealing picture of you up top?? Are you trying to get men fired at work for looking at face porn?! Jeez Romi.

    1. OMG…am I being a total face ‘ho on my blog?! But in a way, if what you hypothesize is true, then maybe it’s a feminist move, to get as many men fired as possible, and bring some more equality into the workplace 😀 (though in order to really be effective, I should insert Scar-Jo’s face here instead…maybe not her face per say… 😉 )

  17. Romi:
I found out about you on water cooler thread specefically about Langtons international agency, presently i am awaiting word back regarding my partial. I live in Toronto,Canada and I feel awful that we dont have alot of literary agents to coose from. Last post I read you stated you got Langtons as your agents. 23. All the lyrics on your playlist from you blog. The book reminded me of my very Jewish roommate and her Indian fiancé. Talk about opposition to a union!

  24. So, I just read ‘Year of the Chick’, and lemme tell you, it was amazing. Really, could NOT put it down. Love your sense of humor, and it was really awesome to see the struggles that women go through, down on paper. Excited to read your other works! Keep it up…you’re pretty freakin great! 😀

    1. Hi Bobbi!

I’m so glad the book was entertaining and affected you so positively; I really hope you enjoy the sequel as well.

      Thank you for reading!

      Romi

  25. I am so glad I found your books (and now your blog)! I feel like the American version of you except married and a new mother. But your humor and thought process feel so similar as if I’m reading something I’ve written. I have always wanted to live abroad, and write. But I’ll settle for living vicariously through you. I look forward to your next book and future blog posts! Thank you for being so entertaining!

    1. Hi Kay, I’m so glad you could relate, and I am impressed/look up to your state of being married and a new mother ;-). Thanks so much for reading, and the new book will be out in the end of September! 🙂

I just can’t give it to you yet because I quick my job and I’m living in Paris for six months to write (can you believe it? haha). Here from May to October, but send me an email here ( romimoondiwriter@gmail.com ) and we can catch up!

  27. Hey Romi, i have read your small story of your trip to Paris on Wattpad. it was nice i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. i have been to Paris recently and the experiences i had there were quite similar to yours especially the one on the bridge, the Indian guy with padlock. I really had great time in Paris which i will cherish for the rest of my life.

I just wanted to thank you for your story which reminded me of my trip and make me smile 🙂

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed reading about some of those Parisian experiences, and that it could remind you of some of your own inspiring times :).

  28. I picked up “Year of the Chick” for free in the Kobo store. I never do that. Free books are free for a reason, right? Except this time. I read it. I loved your writing style, your humor, your honesty. I am buying the whole series.
